Bats are the world’s best pest control

February 27, 2018 Leave a Comment

What if I told you that nature provides something that naturally eats insects, including mosquitoes, and also pollinates plants? These “creatures” get a bad reputation in movies and TV but actually are a major natural enemy of pests that most people dislike.  What is it I’m talking about? BATS!! (The bats that feed on blood are ONLY found in South America, if you were wondering.)
bats pest control FloridaThe following are more interesting facts about bats:

  1. 70% of the world’s 1,000+ species of bats feed on insects.  All 13 species of bats found in Florida are insectivores (bug eaters).
  2. Some bat species eat an incredible number of night-flying insects including mosquitoes. By some accounts, they can eat as many as 1,200 insects in an hour of feeding!
  3. Besides being the world’s pest controllers, bats help to pollinate plants & spread fruit seeds.
  4. Most bats prefer to roost in trees or caves. Unfortunately, when these roosting sites are not available, bats can take up residence in buildings and become bothersome. So, if you live in a treeless subdivision, you might not want them coming to your home.
  5. In 2011, scientists estimated that bats in the United States save us somewhere around 25 billion in pest control services every year. Bats have been documented eating bugs that attack pecans, almonds, rice, cotton, corn, coffee, sugarcane, tomatoes, cucumbers and beans.
  6. As you can see, bats aren’t the bad guys they’re made out to be. In the event you encounter a bat problem in your home, we have humane methods to remove the bats. This will not only make you happy, but the bats will benefit, as well.

If you want to discover how to attract bats to your yard, here’s a great article we found!  Despite the help from bats and naturally occurring pest control, there are still pests in our yards and those that attack or invade our homes. These pests included termites, cockroaches, spiders, ants, earwigs, etc. We can help eliminate these pests efficiently and in harmony with nature so call us at 850-682-5354 or fill out our contact us form online.
