Bed Bugs Prevention, Identifying Bites, and Getting Rid of Them

June 30, 2018 Leave a Comment

cleaning beds bed bugs

Bed bugs have become more of a problem in recent years than ever before. Having an infestation of them is stressful and difficult, but knowing what to do to prevent them, identify bites from them, and get rid of them should they come into your home is crucial for getting back to normal.

Adult bed bugs can be pale or reddish brown in color, and are about the size of an apple’s seed. They can also infest your home quickly. Female bed bugs lay anywhere from one to five eggs per day. Because they reproduce so quickly, detecting a bed bug infestation early on is the best way to get rid of them. Look below for a size comparison of a bed bug with a matchstick.

How do you know if you have bed bugs? Check your mattresses and bedding for the telltale signs. You’ll see blood smears and fecal matter which may look like dots from a pen. You’ll also see part of the exoskeletons. If you find these signs, do not wait it out or attempt to eradicate them yourself. You must call a professional that can get the job done right. Only pest control experts can effectively kill off a bed bug infestation with methods that include heat treatment, encasement techniques, and biological pesticides. These options are usually safe for children and pets too.

Bed bugs are creepy creatures that feed on your blood while you sleep. You will not feel them because they release a small bit of anesthetic when they puncture your skin. So you keep sleeping while they keep eating. If you find bites that resemble mosquito bites when you wake up that are itchy, you may want to take a closer look around the headboard of your bed as well as around the legs of furniture to see if you notice any signs of bed bugs.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to completely keep them from getting into your home so keeping things clean and watching out with your upholstered items will help you detect an infestation early on. If you think you may have entered a home or hotel room with bed bugs in it, you should remove your clothing, bag it up and put it in your dryer for 30 minutes on high.

Bed bugs are highly-resistant to pesticides which is why you need to call in pest control professionals to get rid of them. If you’ve traveled to different cities, stayed in hotels, or moved recently, check your home for bed bugs. If you see anything that makes you think you might have them in your home, call Spears Pest Control in Crestview, Florida today at 850-682-5354 to help you get rid of them and get those unwanted guests out of your home.
