One of the most unsightly pests that make their way into our homes in Northwest Florida are cockroaches. These pests will eat your food, damage your home, and some species can even spread germs and illness to humans. It is important that you take many measures to “reduce the attention” for your home so that these pests will not bother you. This is not an exhaustive list, but here are some of the most helpful and simple hints that you can use to help keep cockroaches away.

Keep Your House Clean

The first step to keeping any pest out of your home is to keep everything clean. Always make sure to wash dishes and clean up the table directly after a meal, and not to allow dirty dishes to lie around the house. Additionally, mop and vacuum your floors daily, and don’t allow spills or crumbs to sit on the floor for an extended period of time. It’s always a good idea to clean things up immediately, and to make a habit of doing so, so it isn’t as difficult to keep up with the chore.

Take Trash Out Regularly

In addition to keeping the kitchen clean, also remember to take out your trash regularly. Place trash bags in a waste bin with a lid, making sure to keep it away from your house until the waste management service can come pick it up. It is recommended not to leave trash sitting in your house for more than 48 hours.

Fix Leaking Sinks / Faucets

As cockroaches are attracted to water, you should always make sure to fix leaky faucets and sinks. Additionally, make sure to keep the humidity in your house down by either opening windows or employing a small dehumidifier.

Keep Yard Debris Away From Your Home

Always make sure to keep wood piles, compost, and yard debris away from your house, as roaches and other pests like to hide in piles such as these. Keeping them close to your home is only inviting the pests to come nearer.

Seal Cracks / Holes to Keep Them From Entering

Always make sure to seal cracks and holes on the exterior of your house that would allow pests to enter. If you do not feel comfortable doing this on your own, it is highly recommended to have a professional come do this for you.

Still Have Roaches? Call an Expert
